CHA-AiC-c. Katharine Gemmel Lynes, b. Mar. 2, 1850 (Benj.Lynes 6, Hannah 5, Jonathan 4, Jonathan 3, Jonathan 2, Wm.1). m. Sept. 6, 1871, Aron Turner Bailey, b. Apr. 6, 1850. They had a dau. who died at birth. She was a "D.A.R." through Capt. Jonathan (4) Maltby, and an original member of the Maltby Association. She resided for many years at 252 W. 76th St., New York City. She d. May 2, 1935, at the home of her sister-in-law, 75 Park Ave., Danbury, Conn., of arterial scolispis. Mr. Bailey died March 9, 1877.

In loving memory to her, whom I never met face to face in this life, these few words are dedicated, with deepest respect and admiration. Her character was so fine that words offered in tribute seem dwarfed before the beautiful spirit of this cherished friend.

Her lovely Christian character spoke through every letter she ever wrote, during a period of thirty years. Her faith permeated every line--faith in an All Loving Father who guided one tenderly along the thorny paths of life.

Her own courage, in the dark hours, her wonderful comforting to others in troublous times, and her warm and loving heart going out to those less blessed--combined with an open-handed generosity, endeared her to all who really knew her. Truly "Thy works shall live after thee." Although she is no longer here to guide and help, her wonderful faith and works live on, to strengthen and uplift those who are left.

Her steadfast friendship, "kin-ship," brotherly love" remain, a guiding star for those who were blessed in calling her friend and cousin.

During the thirty years she was a member of the Maltbie Family Association--having joined at its founding--she was always a tower of strength in her interest, encouragement, appreciation of the work entailed, and its difficulties, with all, a warm-hearted and generous support, financially.

Descending from Capt. Jonathan (4) Maltbie, who valiantly served the cause of right and freedom, during the Revolutionary War--she up- held the same standard in her daily life--always standing for high principles and justice.

She was an example and an inspiration to greater effort, greater achievement, to all those who knew her, and because they knew her-- loved her.

Just as 850 years previously, her ancestor, Reinfrid, "a valliant soldier in the Conqueror's Army" is recorded to us as:--"He lived beloved and respected" and when he died, "his little body" was brought to Hachness, where he was buried before the altar of St. Peter the Apostle," so, after eight centuries, Katharine, having lived beloved and respected--a valliant soldier in the army of Christ, the Conqueror, died and "her little body" was laid to rest.
